The most important part of maintaining any Fort Worth air conditioner is cleaning the coils. All air conditioners will have two coils, one called the condenser coil and the other called the evaporator coil. In window type air conditioners the coils are very close with the evaporator coil being the one inside the conditioned space behind the filter. The condenser coil is the one that is outside and rejects the heat.
In most homes central air type air conditioners you condenser coil is located in the part of your air conditioner that sits outside.
Often the condenser coil is neglected. It also needs periodic cleaning to keep it running at it's peak performance. There are some simple things you can do yourself to ensure you keep your air conditioner running efficiently.
Keep plants and structures a minimum of 12" from the sides of your condenser. More is needed around the service panel.
Keep a minimum of 5' of clearance (when possible) above the condenser for your discharge air. You don't want to draw the discharge air back into the condenser.
Just like keeping your evaporator coil clean you need to keep the condensing coil clean. It generally doesn't grow mold, it does collect grass clippings, sand, leaves, and the occasional lizard and frog.
